01 Why Axion

A different kind of contractor.

Most projects fail on three things: silence, surprise costs, and the wrong people on site. We built the studio to remove all three.

01

Direct access to the owner

You speak with the person responsible for the build. No call centre, no project-manager-of-the-week.

02

Bilingual across the river

Permits and code in Ontario and Québec, handled in English or French — whichever you prefer.

03

Transparent or fixed

Pick cost-plus for full visibility on every invoice, or fixed-price to lock the budget on day one.

04

A decade of references

Over 10 years and 100+ delivered projects. References available on request, in either language.

05

Permits to punch list

We carry the project from first sketch through final inspection. One number to call. One file.

06

Right-sized teams

A deck on Saturday or a 10,000 sq ft retail buildout — same standards, different crew size.

03 The approach

Quiet on site. Clear on paper.

Construction goes wrong in the gap between the drawing and the day. We close that gap with owner supervision, written change orders, and weekly site notes you can actually read.

— The problem

The problem

Delays. Surprise invoices. A foreman who gives one answer, the office gives another, and nobody puts it in writing.

— The answer

The Axion answer

The owner is on site. Pricing is itemised. Every change is a one-page note signed by both sides before the saw cuts.

The Axion team — small enough to know your name.

A studio is only as strong as its trades.

A decade of work in Ottawa-Gatineau means a roster of electricians, plumbers, framers and finishers we trust to be in your house. We do not bid out to whoever is cheapest that week.

04 How a project moves

Four steps. No mystery.

Each one ends with something on paper before the next begins.

01
— Conversation

We listen first.

A 30-minute call to understand the vision, the constraints, and the budget range. Commercial or residential, English or French.

02
— Site visit

We come look.

A walk-through of the property, the existing conditions, the local code. Ottawa, Gatineau, and the surrounding region.

03
— Quote

We put it in writing.

An itemised estimate, costed line by line. Choose cost-plus for transparency or fixed-price for certainty.

04
— Build

We start, and we tell you.

A scheduled kickoff, weekly notes from site, and one number to call when something needs deciding.

06 In their words

A short list.

A longer list of references is available on request — in either language.

Phil is just so reliable. Axion did our home addition faster than we expected, on budget, and exactly how we pictured it.

We needed someone who could work on our Québec property and answer us in English. Transparent pricing, excellent craftsmanship.

07 Before you call

Common questions.

Most projects start with the same handful of questions. Here are the answers we give before we even meet.

Book a call

30 minutes · no commitment

01 How does cost-plus work?

You pay actual cost on materials, labour and permits, plus a stated management fee — usually a percentage of project cost. You see every invoice. You see every margin. Best for projects where the scope evolves and you want full visibility.

02 How does fixed-price work?

We agree a single number before work begins, against a clearly defined scope. The number does not move unless you change the scope in writing. Best when the design is locked and you want budget certainty.

03 How do you handle the Ontario–Québec border?

We are licensed and certified on both sides. Permits, building code, sales tax, contractor regulation — different in Ontario and Québec, handled by us, in your preferred language. We carry the paperwork.

04 Is my project too small?

No. Decks, sheds, garages and small renovations are welcome. Same standards as a custom home. The only thing that scales is the size of the crew on site.

05 How long will it take?

Decks and small renovations: 1–3 weeks. Major renovations: 6–12 weeks. Custom homes: 6–12 months. Commercial builds: 3–12 months. We commit to a written timeline at the quote stage.

06 What if I do not have plans yet?

Most clients do not. We offer Design Assist — we bring in the right designer or architect early, alongside our build team, so the drawings reflect what is actually buildable on your site and budget.

07 Do you warranty the work?

Yes. One year on workmanship and materials as standard. Up to 10 years on certain structural elements. Manufacturer warranties on installed products pass through to you.

08 Start a project

Tell us what you are building.

A few details so we arrive at the first call already half-prepared. Replies usually within one business day, in English or French.
